A once-creepy thrift find turned into a neon-pink conversation starter. I discarded the lid/hat and used the head as a quirky plant pot—a true upcycled home decor win!

This wooden “Relax” sign got an ombré neon pink makeover. Now it’s a bright and stylish reminder to breathe. It lives on my desk and adds a pop of personality.

Found a unique plat pot in a charity shop and love the outcome

Found a unique pot in a charity shop and love the outcome. A matte neon pink ombré finish gave it a whole new personality—and my plants are thriving in it.

The awesome crater-like texture caught the spray paint perfectly when I sprayed it upside down. Just a few sweeps and—hey presto!

🎨 Spray Paint DIY – FAQ

Q: Is spray painting safe for renters?
A: Absolutely—when done right! Stick to small, removable items like jars, signs, and plant pots. Avoid spraying walls or fixtures unless you’ve got written permission from your landlord.

Q: What kind of spray paint do you use?
A: I love using neon and matte finish spray paints—especially in pinks! I’ve linked my go-to paints above. They’re budget-friendly and give fab coverage. Check individual paints for light fastness.

Q: Do I need to prep the item before spraying?
A: Yes, babe! Wipe it clean, lightly sand if it’s glossy, and make sure it’s dry. A quick primer coat can help the colour pop and last longer.

Q: Can I spray paint indoors?
A: Only if you’ve got serious ventilation and protection. I always recommend spraying outdoors or in a well-ventilated garage with a drop cloth and mask. I do mine in the garage. I keep both back and front doors open. I always wear a mask and goggles. Those little particles get EVERYWHERE!

Q: How long does it take to dry?
A: It becomes touch-dry in 20–30 minutes. If you need several coats, give it 24 hours to fully cure. This is especially important if you’re handling or potting plants in it.

Q: How do you get that ombré effect?
A: Hold the can further away and spray in light layers, building up the colour gradually. Move your hand in a sweeping motion and blend as you go. It’s easier than it looks!

Q: Where do you find your items to upcycle?
A: Charity shops, car boot sales, and the back of my cupboards! Look for interesting shapes or textures—spray paint brings them to life.

Q: Can I use this on plastic or ceramic?
A: Yes! Just make sure the paint is suitable for the surface. Some plastics may need a primer first. Always check the label.

Q: What if I mess it up?
A: No stress! Let it dry, sand it lightly, and go again. Spray paint is super forgiving—and part of the fun is experimenting.

Q: Can I tag you in my creations?
A: YES PLEASE! Tag @KikisHouseMagazine or use #KikisHouse so I can hype you up and maybe even feature your glow-up!
